The real hustle starts when you finish your 9–5 job

What you will do after you come home from office will define where you will be in your career. — These are the golden words my father always used to say to me when I started my career. During those days, like everyone else who starts off their career, I was excited about getting my first salary, spending time hanging out with my colleagues after the office and doing random things. Things went pretty smooth during the early days, until I realized that I’m not growing.

You see the problem was that I was thinking of my 9 to 5 job as enough. Whereas in reality the real hustle starts after those nine hours. See everyone does a job to earn money, it is what you do after that to hone new skills that defines you.

The hustle to learn and grow

Running the mill from 9 to 5 and would pay the bills. But the real growth and success in life will come when you will start to invest in yourself. To justify what you are getting paid you need to invest those 9 hours with complete dedication to your work. So, when does the initiative of personal take place?

You guessed it right — the time you have after the office. Make the most of that time by investing in yourself. Learn something extra that is beyond your KWAs so that you can improve your market value. Hone a skill that differentiates you from your peers. This will show your true value to the company, and your chances of growth will improved automatically.

How to go about it?

Yes, you already had a tiring day at the office spending 9 grueling hours. But to achieve something that no one else can, you need to do things that no one else does. This is where the need to make it work after the office hour comes into the picture. So, what to do and how to manage things after office? Here are some tips that I’ve employed, which will certainly help you as well.

Think of it as your daily workout

Daily physical workout is imperative to maintain good health. Similar to this, it is equally important to keep hustling daily after office to keep your brain actively working towards your ultimate goal. Think of it as the daily workout your mind needs to stay on the track.

Just like you have a regimen for exercising different muscles in the body, break down your goal in small achievable chunks and work towards achieving them one day at a time.

Not only will this keep you inspired towards achieving your final goal, but at the same time make the road all the more easy.

60 minutes of focus

You don’t have to invest long hours towards achieving what you yearn for, after office. A sincere effort with complete focus for sixty minutes is more than enough. In the beginning even these 60 minutes would look like a mountain of a task. So, you can even begin practicing 30-minutes of complete focus and gradually increase the timing. Practice this for a couple of weeks, and you will get to see awesome results.

Don’t get into the whole ‘what difference will 30-minutes a day routine make’. It’s not about the pace, it’s about the effort. These 30-minutes will become one hour and even more once you get into the habit of making the most of your time left after your job.

And, a lot of perseverance

It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. Like they say, nothing worth having comes easy. We humans are creatures of habits. So, you might face some hiccups to bring this routine into practice. After all, who doesn’t like spending leisure time partying with friends after the office or simply doing nothing.

Doing the things mentioned above does not by any way mean that you have to completely give up on your social life. This only means that you need to raise your hand and take charge of your life after work. Think of the ways you are wasting your time, doing things that are not going to take your anywhere.

Come up with a plan to maximize what you can get out of whatever time you have after the office. And invest it equally amongst the ultimate goal that you desire to achieve and your personal life.
